HERMENEGILDO RODRIGUES DE BARROS

Hermenegildo Rodrigues de Barros was born in Januária, Minas Gerais, on August 31st, 1866, and died in Rio de Janeiro on September 24th, 1955.
A great Brazilian jurist, Hermenegildo was pointed Minister of the Federal Supreme Court in 1919, occupying the position left by Canuto Saraiva. He held office until his retirement, in 1937.
He was elected president of the Court in 1931 and then reelected in 1934. On May 20th, 1932, during his term in office, the Superior Court of Electoral Justice was established.
Moreover, in 1933 and 1935 he presided at the preparatory sessions of the National Constituent Assembly, of which he became effective president in 1934.
His main published works are: Decisões Judiciárias, Tribunal Especial, Direito das Sucessões, Memórias do Juiz mais Antigo do Brasil.
